P. morifolia is the easiest of all the Passion vines and perfect for a container or the greenhouse border with large bold leaves similar to a Mulberry tree with a light hairy covering. Flowers are produced very easily nearly all the year round with a main show in summer, are small, white, blue and mauve and followed by large egg-shaped purple fruit which ripen and contain large bright orange seeds. Can be cut to within a few inches of the woody base in spring to control growth if desired and is also an important food plant for Heliconiinae butterflies. |
